Values

The CAIP is a non-profit institution aiming at providing economic operators, of every size and nature, with alternative dispute resolution mechanisms that remain true to their essence and meet user expectations. Arbitration and mediation at the CAIP are thus confidential, efficient and flexible, offered at reasonable costs and fully compliant with the law, while avoiding all excessive proceduralisation.

History

The CAIP is one of the oldest arbitration centers in activity in France. It was officially founded in 1926, under the name Chambre arbitrale de Paris, by Louis Louis-Dreyfus, a member of the French parliament and co-director of the commodity distribution and trading company Louis Dreyfus Group.

Louis Louis-Dreyfus was one of the originators of the bill that became law on 31 December 1925 and recognized the validity of arbitration clauses in commercial contracts, both domestic and international. Since then, French arbitration law has been evolving and inspiring legislations all over the world.

The CAIP was born as an avant-garde institution, and it will continue to push for modernization in the fields of arbitration and mediation.
